Workshop
- Consultations
with the NGO sector
Representatives
from about 20 NGOs participated in the meeting, organized by the
climate change project office, where the project proposal for the
Second National Communication was presented and discussed, along with
the possibilities and ways of inclusion of NGOs in the preparation of
the Second National Communication. In the past, only few NGOs were
involved in the climate change related activities due to the lack of
knowledge. Despite the fact that NGOs have their representative in the
National Climate Chance Committee, they were still not being informed
and educated enough about national activities. It was concluded that
it is necessary to increase the cooperation within the NGO sector, and
between the environmental NGOs and the Ministry of Environment and
Physical Planning, which should support NGOs in their activities
related to increasing public awareness. All parties agreed that NGOs
could significantly contribute to raising general knowledge on climate
change in the future, through conducting public awareness campaigns
and implementation of small-scale related projects. Closer cooperation
and information exchange with the climate change project office and
between the NGOs was recommended. Since NGOs were introduced to the
GEF Small Grants Programme, they are motivated to prepare projects
addressing climate change and will be involved in capacity building
activities.
